2-minute screening before your first sessionIs a hyperbaric oxygen session right for me?
Open to most adults after a 2-minute screening. A few conditions need a letter from your GP or specialist first, and a small number mean a session is best left for now. This page sets out which, so you know exactly where you stand before you book.
2 minutes online, then a check on the day
Before your first session you complete a short suitability questionnaire online. It asks about your ears, sinuses and lungs, any operations, any long-term conditions and medicines, and whether you are pregnant. Renoo2 checks your answers before your booking is confirmed. On the day, your operator asks how you are feeling and moves your session if you have a cold or blocked ears, because you equalise your ears as the pressure changes.
Screening is a safety check rather than a medical assessment, and it is there to make sure a session is safe and sensible for you. Where a question needs a clinician's view, we ask you to check with your GP, and your booking is confirmed once everyone is comfortable with it.
Bring a letter from your GP or specialist if
- You have a heart condition, an implanted device such as a pacemaker, or high blood pressure that is still being brought under control
- You have a lung condition such as COPD, emphysema or asthma that is hard to control
- You have epilepsy or a history of seizures
- You have diabetes, because pressure and oxygen can affect blood sugar and we plan the session around how you manage it
- You have had eye surgery in the last 3 months, or have been told you have a cataract
- You are recovering from an operation, an injury or an illness and want the session to sit alongside your care
- You have a neurological condition, or you are booking for someone you care for who does
A session is best left for now if
- You have an untreated collapsed lung (pneumothorax), or have been told you have air trapping in your lungs
- You are receiving certain chemotherapy medicines, in particular doxorubicin, bleomycin or cisplatin, or taking disulfiram
- You have had ear or sinus surgery recently, or have a current ear, sinus or chest infection
- You have a fever or feel unwell on the day
- You are pregnant, unless your consultant has agreed in writing
- You are under 18: Renoo2 sessions are for adults aged 18 and over
These lists follow the contraindications and precautions published by hyperbaric medicine bodies and chamber manufacturers, and the screening questionnaire covers anything else that comes up. Renoo2 confirms every booking and takes medical advice where a case needs it.

Ears first. The one thing everyone notices is pressure in the ears, like a plane coming in to land. If you fly comfortably and clear your ears by swallowing or gently blowing against a pinched nose, you will be fine. If equalising takes you a little longer, tell your operator and the pressure change is taken more slowly.
Claustrophobia. The Renoo2 chamber is a hard shell with luxury seating and viewing windows along both sides, a screen, lighting and an intercom, and you can see the operator throughout. Most people who worry about confined spaces are fine once they are inside, and you can pause or stop the session at any point.
Carers. In our quiet daytime blocks a carer sits in with the person they support. Both people complete screening and both seats are booked.
Sessions for training, recovery and everyday wellbeing
Training and sport
Healthy adults who train hard and want a recovery session are the simplest bookings. Screening still applies, and we ask about any injury you are carrying.
Injury and after surgery
These sessions run with the agreement of the clinician looking after you. Ask your physiotherapist or surgeon how a supervised pressurised oxygen session fits your plan, and bring their answer.
Long-term conditions
Renoo2 sessions are wellbeing sessions rather than treatment. When your care team think a supervised session is reasonable for you as a wellbeing activity, our quiet blocks are set up for it, with carer access and extra time.
